Last week’s sermon was on God’s faithfulness shown to us through His Word and his testimonies…
Psalm 119:108
Accept my FREEWILL OFFERINGS of praise, O LORD, and teach me your rules.
A sacrifice of praise. Which means it isn’t easy, but is a choice, a SACRIFICE, given in thanks. Because:
111 Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.
This week’s sermon coming up is on persevering in prayer, something I constantly struggle with, but yearn to improve on.
And the days in between? Filled with news of people losing little ones unborn, little ones already joined to their families in life; homes up in flames, entire cities burning; loved ones dying who do not know the Lord; jobs lost and families torn apart.
But God – YOU ARE EVER FAITHFUL.
Psalm 119:107
I am severely afflicted; give me life, O LORD, according to your WORD!
There is life, found in Christ, and in the word of God. Are you turning there in the midst of your trials? Are you offering up your sacrifice of praise to the One who has proven faithful through any circumstances – even if we can’t see the big picture; the lamp to our feet and the light to our path is meant only to light the way just in front of us.
Just.enough.to.see.
We can’t live our lives in a bubble- God is much bigger than that, and we need to trust him.
So as things come tumbling down around me, I am encouraged by the people turning to God – on their knees in prayer. Where there is sorrow, there is also joy. And I am challenged – not to fear for my own little one yet unborn, but to trust the one who holds all our lives in his hand. Not to despair at lives turned from God, but to remember how long Augustine’s mother prayed for him to follow Christ. To praise him in the storm, to pray for his Holy Spirit to rain down on those lives and homes going through the fiery trials. And to give thanks for all his faithfulness.
